Chapter 6 (Cage): The Run

Bishop fitted me with a crew, but it didn’t make me feel any better about what I had to do. I wanted to quit while I was ahead.

I couldn’t shake my bad feelings, and for a long time, I was nervous as shit. However, I got on with it, starting my bike and taking some guys with me to the port to pick up the shipment.

A cargo van followed, driven by another member. If we got in trouble, he could help bail us out.

When we got to the port, the guys there looked at me funny. I flashed the emblems and the vests, and they nodded.

“Ahh, I see, the guys from the MC,” one of them said.

They started to grab the boxes and throw them into the cargo van. I waited and waited, holding my hand against the 9 mm that Bishop gave me. He told me to be careful.

I didn’t know what to say, other than, I guess, to thank him for arming us at least. The guys put it in the van, but then, suddenly, they stopped.

“We don’t have enough room,” one of them said.

I looked, and a couple of members stepped forward, agreeing to carry it on their bikes. I didn’t.

Just because I was out here doing this didn’t mean I was ready to take that sort of shitty risk. I definitely knew it would be up to Brick and me if shit did get bad.

“Everything’s so far so good,” I said.

“Yeah, but if I see that bitch fucker Ortiz, it may not be as good,” Brick said.

He was still injured, but I knew he’d put the injury to the side for his own well-being, which I got. I mean, that’s how we worked in the MC.

Two of the other more lower-end members wound up taking most of the excess. They were young, and I knew I could trust them with it.

As it was finished, we revved up our bikes and got the fuck out of here.

Things seemed like smooth sailing, and we were getting close to the interstate. But that’s when I saw it.

“Hey, Brick! Look to your right! Cubans,” I said.

Sure enough, the Cubans were there, but I also noticed an unmarked car with them. The outline and mustache were enough to tell me who it was.

Ortiz.

He seemed to have a buddy with him, too.

“We have to split up, so the Cubans and Ortiz get confused. I need you to make a diversion for the cops,” I told him.

Brick beamed.

“Finally, I can get my goddamn revenge on that son of a bitch,” he said.

I knew this was what he wanted. He moved and grabbed something nearby.

A brick.

He threw it, lobbing it straight into the police car’s windshield. It wasn’t the best thing for us to do, but sure enough, it caused the car to divert, chasing after Brick.

I waved at the Cubans, who were in trucks and following me. I accelerated. There was only one thing we needed to do.

And that, of course, was to get the damn goods back to the hideout.
